Down On The Farm! Preschool Activities

We’ve had a busy month at Naturally Curious Childcare and our preschool children have been enjoying lots of fun activities. Here Pascale, from Pear Tree Day Nursery, shares some of her highlights from the last few weeks, including their farm themed activities.

Farm Themed Preschool Activities

preschool activitiesOver in Farnborough we started September with a visit from Daisy the Cow. The children had great fun trying their hand at milking and no animals were injured in the process! As you can see from this photo Daisy the Cow consisted over a beautifully drawn cow and a rubber glove. This would make a great activity for a farm-themed birthday party.

Our farming topic continued with the construction of our own scarecrow. Great fun to make with old clothes, even the stuffing can be made from odd socks and other bits and pieces. The children enjoyed singing and doing the actions for several rounds of “Dingle Dangle Scarecrow”!

As you may know Colin the Chicken is a resident at Pear Tree Day Nursery so it was with great delight that the children went on an impromptu egg hunt around the garden when Colin mislaid her eggs! Of course if you are planning a farm inspired activity for your pre-schoolers you don’t need Colin to lay some eggs. How about hiding hardboiled eggs around the house or garden, and then decorating them when they’ve been found? A simple set of stickers can be used for decoration or get the felt-tips out.

Pirate Themed Preschool Ideas

The children took a break from the farmyard to celebrate “International Talk Like A Pirate Day”. With dressing up, walking plank, making pirate puppets, pirate stories and a scrummy pirate lunch it was a fun filled day. As you can see the staff took it very seriously with Kimberley getting into character!

Back To The Farm

preschool activitiesThere was plenty of creative and messy play during our month on the farm. We love getting the art box out and letting the children explore their artistic side! I think these woolly lambs are particularly effective and don’t require lots of materials. All you need is a roll of cotton wool, white paper, some black felt or wool, a coloured piece of paper or card, scissors and as glue stick. Depending on the age of your child you can either help them cut out the legs and ears, or let them try themselves. These would make a great craft activity at a children’s party, and the children can take them home at the end.

preschool activitiesEveryone loves baking at Pear Tree Day Nursery and these piggy cakes were no exception! We talked about the various ingredients and how the farmer gets them to the supermarket so we can buy them, but most of all the children enjoyed decorating the cakes and licking their fingers!

We would love to hear your feedback so please share your farmyard inspired preschool activities. And if you have a child at Naturally Curious Childcare tell us what they enjoyed from the last month so we can continue to provide lots of fun, and educational, activities at our nurseries. Thanks!
